Alphose Makacha. Makokha, a renown actor, has revealed that his wife, the late Purity Wambui, has been battling cancer for the last 18 years, until her demise last week.
The two had been married for 30 years. Makokha said that the disease consumed all of their finances, because of the frequent hospital visits. It however gave him reason to continue working harder to ensure that he supports his family.
On the the day that Purity breathed her last, she had requested Makokha to take her to hospital.
He added that her death is a pain that he will forever live with.
“Ni kidonda sijui itaisha lini lakini najua itaishi forever. Nilikuwa naenda job. I told my daughter, please take care of your mum. I was going to look for my daily bread. Kabla tufike katikati ya safari.”
“Daddy nipeleke hosy. Nikampeleka When we got there akaanza kuhudumiwa akasema, daddy, you are the best. Imekuwa ni mzigo. Siwezi sema ni mzigo imekuwa safari. Kila safari iko na mamo yake, milima, misumari name it and lazima upambane. Tulikuwa tunaenda private you have to spend money. Mwisho ndo nilikuja kumpeleka Kenyatta. It’s like over KSh 3 million.”
Purity’s death was announced by Makokha’s colleague Ondiek Nyuka Kwota.
Their children have also been highly affected by her absence.
“It has hit and affected them. They are in disbelief. The youngest, who is 11 years asks where mum is. I have to lie and say she is in Heaven. She has gone to be with the Lord. I have to counsel the little one. It is painful, sad and hard,” Makokha said.
