Since last week Kenyans have been treated to a saga involving IEBC and DCI following the arrest of three Venezuelans nationals at JKIA in possession of IEBC stickers.
The stickers that were meant to be used in the coming general elections in 11 counties were transported in personal luggage without security hence the fracas.
DCI stated that the three Venezuelans, Jose Gregorio Camargo Castellanos, Joel Gustavo Rodriguez and Salvador Javier Suarez were in the country following the invitation of one Abdullahi Mohamed Abdi who is the CEO and founder of an IT Tech, Seamless Limited.
According to a statement by DCI boss George Kinoti, the Venezuelans were not in the country to represent Smartmatic, a foreign company contracted to aid the electronic voting system in the country’s coming elections and were neither involved with IEBC as the commission earlier claimed.
“It is clear that the three were in Kenya solely for business with Abdullahi Mohamed, applying for his personnel who he had contracted to come to his office for work-related activities,” DCI statement read.
Abdullahi has however broken his silence accusing DCI of partial reporting regarding his involvement in the matter.
According to him, when the whole drama unfolded, he fully cooperated with DCI but due to the partial reporting, he has now been turned into a person of interest and now his life is in danger.
“Smartmatic had sub-contracted me for the upcoming polls and while the saga ensued, I recorded statements with the DCI and gave all corresponding documents that pointed to the working relations between Smartmatic, IEBC, the Venezuelan nationals and Seamless technologies.
“Having cooperated with the DCI, I am surprised that DCI chose to share partial information with the public that has since turned me into a person of interest ,” Abdullahi told NTV.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Abdullahi has experience in handling matters of elections. In the 2017 election, he offered consultancy services to the European Union election observation mission.
He previously worked with Tospay limited. He graduated in 2009 with a degree in computer science from Periyar University in India
