Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba on Friday November 17 attributed the failure by the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) to air Harambee Stars match to a system hitch.
In a statement, CS Namwamba explained that KBC experienced a satelite failure which made it hard for the national broadcaster to air the match.
He however apologized to Kenyans who waited for the match which was scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.
“Last night KBC let down Kenyan fans with satellite difficulties that occasioned failure to screen the Harambee Stars game vs Gabon in Franceville,” the statement read in part.
“We owe Kenyans a sincere, unequivocal and unambiguous apology for this disappointment. You sure deserve better,” he added.
Kenya paid the price for a poor second-half display as the Panthers of Gabon came from behind to collect all points in their 2026 World Cup qualifier.
Harambee Stars lost 2-1 to the home side.
Masoud Juma opened the scoring on the 40th minute to hand Kenya the lead heading to half time on the driving seat.
Denis Bouanga levelled the scores for the hosts Gabon on the 60th minute before Guelor Kanga sealed the win two minutes to full time.
Kenya will now shift attention to Seychelles whom they play on Monday away in Moroni.
Burundi currently top the Group F on three points after edging out The Gambia 3-2, Gabon have same points but with an inferior goal difference while Harambee Stars are bottom with no points behind The Gambia who also have zero points.
