Am Not Active In Government – DP Ruto

Date:

Deputy President William Ruto has come out to say that he has taken government back seat from the Uhuru’s administration to allow his boss to shine.

Ruto said he had no problem with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to build new alliances.

According to the Deputy President, his current treatment by the President is an agreed position. He added that he and Uhuru decided to work together in their first term but chose to relax a bit to let the President shine in the second term to let him fulfill his legacy.

“In the second term, the President decided to do things in a different way, which I respect.. which you see, I take a slight back seat because we want to build the legacy of President Uhuru because for a long time we had UhuRuto.. and some people got concerned and said maybe it should be Uhuru because he is the President,” Ruto said.

“So for Uhuru to stand out, maybe we should scale down the UhuRuto so that Ruto can take a back seat, do less so that we can project President Uhuru as the leader of a government which is the case… I am the deputy president and I know my place.”

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Ruto said he was willing to take a ‘backseat’ for the sake of President Uhuru’s legacy.

“…Other people saw it as a scale of my duties but if it is for the good if it can let us have a legacy of the fourth President of Kenya that I am comfortable with. And that is why I am not complaining because that is something we have agreed,” he added

On whether he was confident about President Kenyatta’s legacy, Ruto hesitated to say Jubilee has a solid legacy that was built in its first term around infrastructure, electricity, and any other areas.

However, Ruto couldn’t compare much with what he and the President in the first term and what Uhuru has done in the second term.

“What we would have done in the second term would have built on what we achieved in the first term… We have made progress but not as much as we would want to. Of course, several challenges have come in,” he noted.

Ruto stated that some of the challenges the Jubilee administration had to work on were the handshake. According to him, the handshake brought in a different dynamic that some time and resources to manage.

Ruto pointed out that the Jubilee party is not functioning well because of the ‘busybodies’ who have taken over the party and have no idea about the party’s philosophy.

“The party has been hijacked by busybodies and con men and brokers like Murathe and company,” he said.
