Man Accused Of Stabbing Colleague To Death Over Debt Detained

The police officers have been allowed to detain a man who allegedly stabbed his friend and colleague multiple times to death.

Kibera Senior Principal magistrate Derrick Kuto yesterday gave the DCI officer attached to Dandora police station permission after detectives filed an affidavit in court.

Detective Moses Kirima told the court that he needed 14 more days to detain the suspect – Martin Mungai, commonly known as Sparta, to enable him to complete his investigation but the magistrate granted him seven days.

“The respondent was arrested on July 25 at around 1600hours at Dandora police station for the offense of murder which he committed on August 13, 2017, at 1600 hours. It’s alleged that the deceased had a debt to the respondent via CR124/82/2017 P.A.K refers; the respondent stabbed him to death,” said Kirima as reported by The Star.

Kirima further added that there is a need to conduct a thorough investigation and record comprehensive statements, get a medical report of the incident and the respondent went into hiding since the offense was committed, therefore, the investigation needed time to secure crucial evidence.

The court prosecutor Nancy Kerubo told the magistrate that more time was required for the investigation to be done effectively.

The court magistrate Kuro granted the orders and directed the case be mentioned next month.
