Fear Over Covid-19 Hitting Raila’s Family Days After Celebrating Ida’s Birthday

Date:

Kirinyaga County Assembly has been closed and all MCAs and staff have been asked to self-isolate, a move that has raised suspicion of Covid-19 may have been reported there.

This comes just days after Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru attended a mama Ida Odinga’s birthday party at Raila Odinga Karen home.

At the party from the photos seen by Sonko news, there was no social distancing maintained nor did the guest wear masks.

The Kirinyaga ward reps and staff have been told to self-isolate as the assembly plans to resume operations on September 14.

The County Assembly Clerk Kamau Aidi said in a statement that the decision was taken following anti-virus guidelines by the Ministry of Health.

“The following communication by Speaker Anthony Gathumbi and in line with the ministry’s guidelines, we request all members and staff to self-isolate for the next three weeks,” Kamau said in the letter dated August 24.

“MCAS who did not take the test and would be willing to do so are requested to liaise with the office of the director of human resources and administration.”

Members of the County Assembly were asked to exercise caution while they stay away from the Assembly.

When Nation reached for the clerk and speaker for a comment on the move they did not answer the phone even as some MCAs say the move took them off guard.

“We were not alerted about the closure. The speaker should have convened a meeting and informed us of the reasons why he took such a decision. We read politics in the decision,” said an MCA who sought anonymity told Nation.

On the other hand, it is clear whether Governor Ann Waiguru was also asked to self-isolate from the order.
