A similar incident was witnessed in June last year, when Alshabab militants accosted a bus along Mandera-Wajir highway. The about 15 terrorists shot in the air forcing the driver to stop. They then made passengers alight from the bus. However, none of the 55 who were aboard the bus was harmed.
