Families Of Kware Victims And Volunteer Divers Lament About Being Intimidated By DCI

Date:

Families of victims of Kware murders as well as volunteers who participated in the retrieval of bodies exercise are now living in fear, alleging that they are being intimidated and threatened by DCI.

Some of the family members have since fled Nairobi after receiving threatening calls from strange phone numbers after they participated in DNA exercise, for fear of being attacked.

“As of now, I am the only one who is still in Nairobi. Others have fled Nairobi and I don’t know where they are. We are in danger. We don’t know if we will be attacked at our residence,” said Victor Maina, a relative of  Kware murders victim.

According to some of those who volunteered in retrieving bodies from the dumping site, the police have threatened to hold them responsible for the deaths if they continue with the exercise.

“DCI said they will hold accountable anybody who retrieves a body from the dumping site. They will question why you have retrieved the body and accuse you of being responsible for dumping it there because you would have known where it was. DCI intimidated us so much at the time, ” a volunteer revealed.

Another volunteer identified as Solomon Josephat said that the police have warned them against visiting the dumping site.

Activist Hussein Khalid of Vocal Africa accused the police and government of trying to cover up the Kware murders.

“We don’t know why the retrieval exercise was stopped,” he said.

Together with other human rights activities, they plan to march to President William Ruto’s office to present a list of those who have disappeared and killed since the onset of anti-government protests.

DCI os uet to issue a response on the matter.
