Uasin Gishu county has been forced to remove statues that had been erected in Eldoret town, for beautification purposes, ahead of it’s commissioning to a city by president William Ruto.
The statues, a representation of Kenyan athletes and one of the maize crop, were highly criticized with many questioning the skills of those who were contracted for the job.
The athlete monuments in particular raised a lot of questions, because it was not clear who they represented, yet the county has produced many athletes who have broken records.
The initial maize cob statue was also criticized for being discolored.
Here are some of the reactions from X;
“Look at what Murkomen erected at the City of Champions Eldoret the statues of our Champions looks like skeleton ðŸ˜Alafu upate wakisema wamespend 500M in these statues,” read a comment.
Another X user said, “Someone posted this AI generated images as suggestions to Eldoret city statues. Well if they got to print canvas & laminate them its better than whatever Koti Moja had paid for earlier!!#Eldoret #statue“
