The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority(KEMSA) has welcomed the nomination of Dr. Deborah Mulongo Barasa as Cabinet Secretary for Health.
In a statement from the Board of Director Chair Irungu Nyakera, KEMSA acknowledged Barasa 15-year experience as a medical doctor
“She has proven leadership skills and is goal oriented. She has taken on Kenya’s critical assignments in the health sector, including addressing outbreak prone infections,” Nyakera said.
“We look forward to working with Barasa to achieve our organisational mandate of providing cost-effective supply chain solutions as the backbone of healthcare services in Kenya through.”

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union had earlier congratulated her for the nomination.
“We warmly welcome her to the dutiful responsibility of ensuring quality healthcare systems for all Kenyans, including decent work for all health workers. Being a young medical doctor and specialist physician, we believe she will quickly settle to the enormous task of correcting the disputes around internship and the constitutionality of social health authority,” KMPDU said.
Barasa is among the 11 people that President William Ruto nominated to cabinet on July 19, 2024, a week after he dissolved the previous cabinet.
Other fresh faces in the cabinet include; Julius Migosi, who if approved will be taking over the Education docket,
- Ministry of Agriculture and LivestockDevelopment- Dr Andrew Karanja
- Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy- Dr Margaret Ndungu
- Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation – Eric Muga
Ruto retained Kithure Kindiki as Interior CS, Soipan Tuya(Environment) and Aden Duale(Defence). Davis Chirchir was nominated for Transport and Roads Ministry. He previously held the Energy and Petroleum Ministry.
Alice Wahome was nominated for Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development.
Also, the head of state nomintaed Rebecca Miano for the Attorney General. Miano was previously the Trade and Investiments CS
