Journalists in Nakuru have taken to the streets to protests after one of their own, Catherine Kariuki who works at Media Max, was targeted and shot by police on Tuesday, during ant-government that entered the fourth week.
Kariuki, who was left with at least three gunshot wounds on her leg, was not in motion at the time she was shot.
Marching to the office of Nakuru’s regional commander of police, the journalists are demanding for action against the police who shot Kariuki.
“It is very disheartening and yraumatizing. An attack on Catherine Wanjeri is an attack on all female journalists in Nakuru and also all female journalists in the country.
“What we witnessed was, the police officers were patrolling along Kenyatta Avenue. We were standing by the side and the police began firing gun shots. We were not aware that one of us had been targeted. Why would they target journalists, moreso female journalists? We want to call on all police agencies to ensure that this particular rogue officer who was involved is brought to book,” Citizen TV’s Maryanne Nyambura said.
