Ruto Expresses Willingness To Work With New UK Prime Minister

President William Ruto has joined the world in congratulating Keir Starmer, after he was elected as the new United Kingdom’s Prime Minister .

Starmer, from the Labour Party, beat Conservative’s Rishi Sunak.

“On behalf of the government and the people of Kenya, I wish to convey my utmost congratulations to Sir@Keir_Starmer on the overwhelming support garnered by the Labour Party at the just concluded elections and his subsequent appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” the head of state shared on X.

“His election is testimony to the deep yearning of the citizens of the United Kingdom for progressive politics and policies embodied by the Labour Party,” he added.

Ruto further expressed his willingness to collaborate with the new Prime Minister.

“I stand ready to work with Prime Minister Starmer to foster our bilateral commercial, defence and political cooperation while contributing together towards building a safer, equitable and sustainable global future,” he said.

Just hours after his victory, Starmer held his first cabinet meeting.

“We clearly on Thursday got a mandate from all four nations. For the first time in 20+ years, we have a majority in England, in Scotland and in Wales, and that is a clear mandate to govern for all four corners of the United Kingdom,” he told the media after the cabinet meeting.

He has since planned to visit the  nations as from Sunday and meet with ministers, to “establish a way of working across the United Kingdom that will be different and better to the way of working that we’ve had in recent years, and to recognise the contributions of all four nations.”
