Amid Finance Bill 2024 protests, the Standard Media Group has allegedly been issued with threats for covering the protests.
In a statement shared online, the media house however vowed not to bow down to intimidation.
“We have received threats from authorities of intention to shut us down. We wish to inform the public of our commitment to defend public interest. We shall not be cowed by any threats,” Standard shared.
This come at a time when protestors occupied the parliament leaving it in total chaos
Several of the were however shot dead outside parliament with hundreds others who had been injured being rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital.
MPs and Members of the senate, on the other hand, were safely evacuated during the invasion.
Key organizers of the protests including Boniface Mwangi have however urged protestors to proceed home not later than 6pm.
“Go home. While it’s still safe. The government will send goons to destroy, loot, and blame peaceful protestors. They must listen to us. Spread the word for people to start walking home in groups. We shall be back,” Mwangi shared on X.
Haki CEO Hussein Khalid has also urged protestors to go home while there is still daylight, to further avoid a situation that was witnessed last week, when one of the protestors was short and killed at around 7pm.
