Boniface Mwangi, Hanifa Adan, Hussein Khalid present themselves at DCI

Date:

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has accompanied activists who have been in hiding due to fears of abduction to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters.

On Monday, June 24, 2024, Mutunga accompanied activists Boniface Mwangi, Hanifa Adan, and Hussein Khalid, the executive director of Haki Africa to DCI Headquarters.

This follows a statement Mutunga published on Sunday, June 23, 2024, vowing to escort the activists to DCI Headquarters to inquire why law enforcement officers are seeking them.

Mutunga expressed concern over recent incidents, stating, “Tomorrow at 11 am I shall accompany Hanifa Adan, Hussein Khalid, and Boniface Mwangi to DCI_Kenya HQs on Kiambu Road. Mwangi was almost abducted outside the City Mortuary on Friday contrary to Art. 238(2)(b) of the Constitution. Join us in solidarity,” he said on X.

These developments come amidst a spate of abductions targeting individuals vocal in their opposition to the Finance Bill, 2024.

Notable among those arrested include blogger Billy Simani and Dr Austin Omondi, known as Ja Prado, who have since been released.

On Sunday night, Shad Khalif was also abducted from Sanasana in South B, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Khalif, an outspoken critic of the Finance Bill 2024, was taken on Sunday evening by unidentified persons who had followed him to the area.

A CCTV video circulating on social media shows Khalif being forced into a white Toyota Prado before the vehicle drives away.
