Cherargei Faces Backlash After Blaming Raila For Recent ‘Gen Z’ Protests

Date:

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei is blaming Azimio leader Raila Odinga for the heated demonstrations against Finance Bill 2024, that were witnessed this week in  various parts of the country including Nairobi.

Speaking in a function, the senator urged Raila to have respect as the taxes the government was attempting to raise through the bill will be used for his campaigns for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

“I have seen Azimio talking. I saw Tinga there, whom were are seeking for a job, we want to tell him to have a little bit of respect and gratitude. We are paying this taxes so that we can raise funds for your campaigns at African Union and you are coming to shout at us.

“He said that police used excessive force, if those protestors, be it Generation Z, criminals, had vandalized property they would have met the force of the police. If they had demonstrated without destroying property or irritating the police, the police wouldn’t have used teargas,” he said.

He added that, ” We know you are the sponsors of these protests, can you stop the hypocrisy. You should come forward yourselves so that we meet face to face because those of us in government, we worked hard to get there. This is just the third years for us and in the next one and a half years, you will see the fruits of William Ruto’s efforts.”

Kenyans on X have however ganged against him following the remarks.

Cornelious Ronoh: Samson Cherargei is the product of demonstrations. Before he was elected as Nandi Senator, he used to organize demonstrations against Governor Cleophas Langat in Kapsabet Town every Friday. Today, he has betrayed his cause. Now, he is openly insulting Gen Z. Nandi is underperforming because of bad leaders like him. Therefore, I declare him as our public enemy number 11. #OccupyNandi
