Azimio Demands IG Koome, Bungei To Resign Over Death Of Rex Kanyike

Date:

The opposition is demanding for the immediate resignation of  Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei, following the death of Rex Kanyike Masai, a youthful man who was among those who were protesting against the Finance Bill.

In a statement on Friday, Azimio said that the duo should tender their resignation for failing to protect the life of peaceful protestors.

“We also demand that the DPP bring charges against Koome, Bungei and their rogue officers for the murder of Rex and the 75,” the coalition said.

The 75 were killed during the popular Maandamano that was organized by the opposition.

“This is the return of police force instead of police service,” Azimio said.

Rex died on Thursday evening after allegedly being shot by a police officer who was not in uniform along Moi Avenue. He was taken to Bliss Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“We stand with the family of Rex and his comrades. We pledge to offer all the help required in seeking answers and justice. We demand that these perpetrators of police brutality be arrested and charged with murder in court of law,” Azimio said.

Kenyans have also widely condemned the police for using force, on Kenyans who were holding peaceful demonstrations. They demanded justice of Kanyike’s death, as others hailed him for fighting for what is right.
