“His Blood Is In Your Hands” CS Mutua Blames Protestors After A Police Lost His Hands

Date:

Tourism CS Alfred Mutua has pledged Ksh1 million officer to support to  Chief of Inspector David Karuri Maina, who lost his fingers when a teargas canister exploded in his hands during the protests against the Finance Bill on Tuesday in Nairobi.

Speaking on Wednesday while in Narok County, Mutua also said he will support the officer during his recovery.

The CS however condemned the protests, blaming those who participated in it for the unfortunate incident that befell Karuri.

He urged the youth to refrain in participating in activism and violence that lead to bloodshed.

“As we sit here today, Chief Inspector David Karuri Maina has lost both his arms, today he is disabled, this man is a son, a husband and a father… he has been disabled by the protesters.

“My beautiful young people who are being driven by propaganda, look at the facts, don’t get involved in activism and violence that leads to bloodshed… That officer who lost his hands, his blood is on you,” he said.

Karuri was admitted at the Nairobi West Hospital after the unfortunate incident.

Among those who visited  him are Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

“Yesterday evening, I visited Chief Inspector David Maina, the policeman who got injured while handling a tear gas canister and Corporal Moraa at the Nairobi West Hospital to check on their recovery,” Owino wrote on social media

“While CI Maina suffered terrible injuries, we are happy with the good work that the doctors and nurses of the Nairobi West Hospital are doing to ensure he recovers. It is unfortunate that anyone should suffer injuries in the exercise of citizens’ democratic rights,” the lawmaker added.

He however noted that those protesting were also fighting for the rights of the police

“Do not accept to be used to stifle freedom in our beloved Kenya. This country belongs to all of us and we have no other so we must get it right,” Owino said.
