Omanyala clocks world lead 9.79 to win 100m at Kenya Olympic trials

Date:

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala booked his spot at the Paris Olympics with a world leading time of 9.79 at the Kenyan national trials at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on Saturday.

It was his second-fastest time ever and his second sub-10 performance of the season as he appears to be rounding in to form with the Olympics fast approaching.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s former national champion Mark Otieno was second in 10.12 and is guaranteed an automatic spot at the Olympics if he hits the qualifying time before the June 30 deadline.

Meshack Babu rounded out the podium spots as he clocked 10.20 to cross the finish line in third.
