Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima has been confirmed dead along with nine others who were aboard a military plane.
All the occupants of the plane perished after the plane crashed at Chikangawa Forest.
The information was released to the public by Colleen Samba, who is the secretary for president Lazurus Chakwera
“The aircraft, which was carrying the Vice President, the Right Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and none others was found this morning in the Chikangawa Forest. Unfortunately all on board have perished in the crash,” read the statement.
Citizens of Malawi were thrown into uncertainty after the military plane went missing on Monday June 10 while taking a short trip from the capital city to a mountainous region in the country’s North.
The plane took off at 9.17am and failed to land 45 minutes later at the Mzuzu international airport as expected. The plane disappeared from the radar after take off.
A statement from the president indicated that efforts to make contact with the plane has proved futile.
Chilima has passed away at the age of 51. Those who perished with him are yet to be identified.
