Oscar Sudi is now a free man after the court ruled in his favour on allegations that he forged his academic documents.
Sudi was acquitted on grounds that the state failed to provide enough evidence to pin the Kapseret MP to the offence.
Felix Kombo, the magistrate who was in charge of the case, noted that the prosecution was unable to build a strong case against the lawmaker.
He further faulted the manner in which the prosecution obtained part of the evidence, saying that there was no credibility as it was obtained from a hotel.
On the other hand, Sudi’s defense lamented about how the case had bee dragged for nearly 8 years.
This acquittal served as a huge relief for them.
Sudi’s defence said that he had legitimate academic papers, having qualified in his academic journey.
“We also thank the court for considering the evidence that was produced, and the analysis of the evidence. We confirm that our client is qualified and doesn’t have fake certificates as alluded to and has been set free by the court,” the defence team told the court.
In May 2022, the case heated up when a former principal at the school where Sudi undertook his high school studies revealed that the lawmaker was not among his students.
Patrick Maritim told the court that the Index Number that Sudi had presented couldn’t be traced back to him.
