KWS warns of displacement of wild animals

Date:

Kenya Wildlife Services has warned of displacement of wild animals due to heavy rainfall.

In a notice, KWS asked Kenyans living in wildlife-prone areas to avoid outdoor activities, especially after dusk.

“The recent heavy rains have caused significant wildlife displacement, leading to the risk of unexpected encounters in community wildlife-prone areas,” KWS stated.

“As a precaution, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) cautions the public to avoid outdoor activities in those areas, especially after dusk,” the notice added.

“The public is urged to report unusual wildlife sightings through the KWS 24-hour toll-free line at 0800 597 000, via WhatsApp at +254726 610509, or to the nearest KWS Station for immediate intervention. The safety of people and promoting wildlife coexistence is our priority.”

This comes a day after they reported three missing lions. This is after claims of lions allegedly sighted near Langata Women’s Prison in Nairobi.

KWS said they mobilised a team to search for the lions but none was spotted.

“The KWS Problem Animal Control team promptly mobilised and conducted a thorough search of the area throughout the night. Despite their efforts, no lions were found,” KWS said in a statement.

They, however, said the team is monitoring the situation closely and are on high alert.
