In a report released by the anti-graft body, the politician in question is Kiambu Deputy Speaker and MCA for Hospital Ward John Njue Njiru.

Njiru is accused of demanding Ksh130,000 from a businesswoman who is based in Thika to influence the issuance of permit and protection on her plot valued at Ksh15 million.

However, the businesswoman alerted the EACC officers who then apprehended him on allegations of extortion.

“EACC will this morning arraign Kiambu Deputy Speaker and MCA for Hospital Ward John Njue Njiru who demanded Kes.130,000 from a Thika businesswoman in order to “permit and facilitate protection” of her development works on her own plot worth Kes. 15 million within Thika Town,” the EACC report read in part.

He was arrested and set free as EACC went on with the investigations on the case. However after gathering enough evidence, EACC has set to open the case against the politician.

He will be arraigned before Thika Anti-Corruption Court, from 9:00 am.
