Kitui MCAs are set to debate Governor Charity Ngilu’s impeachment motion next week.
The development comes after the Majority Leader in the County Assembly submitted an impeachment motion to the county assembly speaker.
The Athi Ward Representative, Peter Kilonzo who drafted the impeachment motion accused the governor of violating the constitution, abuse of office, and gross misconduct.
A notice published on a local daily indicated the Kitui County Assembly would seat to debate the impeachment of Ngilu next week.
“Members of the public are hereby notified that a notice of motion on the impeachment of Ngilu has been served to the Speaker of the County Assembly,” the notice read.
The notice by the county notice asked the members of the public to submit their views on the subject matter through the submission of written memoranda and/or dully filled and signed questionnaire.
The MCAs requested the public to ensure that the memoranda and/or questionnaires reach the County Assembly on or before the closure of business that is dated Friday, June 26, 2020.
The public may get copies of the questionnaire and the Notice of Motion from the Assembly’s website – Kitui Assembly’s website.

Ngilu’s impeachment comes at a time she has gone to the Kitui residents to help her save her seat. She is currently collecting signatures from the public so that the county government of Kitui is dissolved by the President and a fresh election be held in the county.
Her impeachment comes barely a fortnight after her Kirinyaga counterpart Governor Anne Waiguru was impeached by her MCAs and her case is currently before the senate.
Waiguru on today appeared before the Senate to defend herself against accusations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
