Date:

DP Rigathi Gachagua joined president William Ruto, government leaders and mourners for the funeral of deceased marathoner Kelvin Kiptum at Chepkorior in Elgeyo Marakwet.

The second in command condoled with Kiptum’s family,  praying that God will grant them strength to bear the great loss.

At the same time, Gachagua also cracked the mourners, while joking about the cold weather that was in the area.

“Your excellency I will be very short kwa sababu hii baridi vile inaendelea… Hata we rais ukija ufupishe pia kwasababu huyu Kipchumba  Murkomen hakutuambia tuvae vizuri mahali tunakuja,” he said

He also urged athletes who will be going for the 2024 Olympic games in Paris to honor Kiptum,

“Last Jamuhuri day your excellency you honored many athletes including the late.  Kwa hivyo tunaomba wale wanariadha wote  ambao wataenda olympics to honor this great son here by carrying our flag high and shattering any other world records that way tutakuwa tumeinua jina lake,. We trust our team and we wish them well,” he said, adding that he will join them if the head of state will allow him.

“Rais siku hizi kichwa yake iko tu kwa mambo ya uchumi. Anatusukuma hata sisi wengine wetu masomo iko chini ati tukuwe economists. Huyu rais ni rafiki yangu lakini alinichenga kidogo. Aliponiambia nikuwe naibu wake nilifikiri nakuja kumsaidia kazi hakuniambia ati anataka sote tukuwe maeconomist, mambo ya uchumi kutoka,” he said, causing laughter among the mourners.
