The wife of Indian businessman Jayesh Kumar Kanji, whose body was found doused with acid after being killed in Machakos, has admitted to have hired his friend to discipline him.
In her confession to the police after her arrest on Wednesday, Velji Jayaben Jayeshikumar revealed that the plan was however not to kill him but teach him a lesson.
She came up with the plan following domestic issues between them but police are yet to determine why they had differences.
Jayaben was arrested after data analysis on one of the suspect’s phone indicated that she was in contact with him.
She was presented at Kibra Law Courts on Thursday, before Magistrate Irene Kahuya. The court allowed investigators to detain Jayaben for 14 days as they proceed with investigations.
“Jayaben is alleged to have been involved in the murder plot after phone analysis revealed that she was in contact with one of the four suspects who were arrested and arraigned at Kibera Law Courts on February 19th,” said Magistrate Kahuya.
“She is reported to have asked the suspect to help discipline and torture her husband as the two had disagreements … The other suspect agreed and recruited others to execute the plan,” she further said.
On Valentines, a CCTV footage captured Jayaben together with her husband and son walking at 7 am. At that point, she contacted Kumar’s friend to execute the plan.
Three hours later, she received a message informing her that the job was completed.
Police are yet to conduct DNA tests on the bones that were recovered from the scene of crime to determine whether they belong to Kumar.
