Flamboyant politician Mike Sonko has always been at the fore front of helping Kenyans who are in need and the less privileged.
From boxing champion Conjestina Acheng’, whom he took to rehabilitation three times, to embattled fake lawyer Brian Mwenda, and the Narok student who had a torn uniform, these are just some of the few cases that the former Nairobi governor has dealt with.
Sonko has done his best to ensure the comfort of the persons without expecting anything in return.
A while back, he was accused of doing charitable works for political reasons, claims he came out to vehemently deny saying that his efforts were aimed at making the world a better place especially for those who are less privileged.
On Saturday February 17, 2024, Sonko further explained why he is inspired to be generous.
“Habari za asubuhi watu wangu. I received a message from a friend asking me what inspires me to be generous and this is what I told him. Nilimwambia kuwa kwangu, ukarimu ni njia ya kufuata mfano wa Yesu. Yesu alikuja duniani kama binadamu mnyenyekevu sana.
“He gave up his comfort/security and lived among the poor and the oppressed. Not all of us were born with a silver spoon. Some of us came from nothing and we know how it feels to have nothing. We know the pain of hunger, hopelessness and the shame of rejection. We know what it means to be in need and we know what it means to receive help from others. I know sometimes life can be hard but let us not be stingy or selfish with the little that we have. Life is temporary and when we are gone, we shall be remembered by our good deeds,” Sonko said.
