4 NEMA Officials Linked To Embakasi Gas Explosion Suspended

Date:

Four officials of the National Environment Management Authority(NEMA), who have been linked to the Embakasi gas explosion that claimed 3 lives and caused injuries to more than 280 people, have been suspended.

The four include; Director of Environmental Compliance, Acting Deputy Director of Compliance and Senior Environmental Officer and the Head of Environmental Impact Assessment who were from the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA).

“The Board further requests the relevant government agencies to commence an immediate investigation. The National Environment Management Authority’s Management is also hereby directed to cooperate with the already established multi-agency teams handling the incident,”

“We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the Kenyans who lost their lives and wish a quick recovery to the injured,” Emilio Mugo, Chairman of NEMA board of Management, said.

The directive comes shortly after president William Ruto ordered Energy and Petroleum CS to sack officials who are responsible for the gas explosion.

“In Nairobi, there was an explosion causing grave injuries to many people because of laziness, deceit and corruption in government offices. Some granted a license for the plant to be established at a residential area endangering the lives of Kenyans.

“I have instructed the Ministry that those responsible for granting the license should be fired, arrested and detained today,” the head of state said on Saturday.
