Why Atwoli Chose To Work With Ruto After 2022 Elections

Date:

COTU boss Francis Atwoli has explained why he chose to support the government after Raila Odinga lost in the August 2022 general elections.

Speaking on Sunday, he admitted to having been the greatest critic of president William Ruto before the elections, yet the opposition was now accusing him of taking Cotu to the government.

“No one was a critic of William Ruto more than me. In Azimio, I was the one who fought Ruto alone even more than Raila. I even said that trees should be cut in Sugoi. Now they are saying Atwoli has taken Cotu to the government,” he said.

Atwoli however noted that he had been very honest with the opposition about his future moves if they failed to clinch presidency in the 2022 elections.

“And I told my Azimio people if you mismanage the election and you are not elected, I will return to my office and when I return to my office you should know that I will work with the government,” he said.

“I did not hide them. And indeed we mismanaged the whole election. We didn’t have agents, we didn’t have any logistics and strategic election committee,” he added.

According to him, workers and employees will work with the government because it is the only way for the government to provide suitable working environment

“We employers and government and workers will work together because government provides an enabling environment from where we exist. And that is our job, to negotiate with the government,” Atwoli said.
