KWS Comes To The Rescue Of Young Zebra Found Suckling It’s Mother’s Carcass

Date:

Kenya Wildlife Service(KWS) has come to the rescue of a young zebra that had lost her mother.

The mother zebra died due to post-paturm complications, leaving her young with no one to fend it.

The young zebra was captured suckling milk from its dead mother.

“Yesterday, KWS Northern Kenya Mobile Vet Unit rescued an infant Grevy’s zebra foal in Lengardae, Samburu. The heart-warming rescue took place as the orphaned foal was discovered desperately suckling on its mother’s carcass, who had tragically succumbed to postpartum complications,” KWS said in a statement.

The young zebra was taken to Reteti Animal Rescue Center where it would be cared for.

“The dedicated team acted swiftly to secure the vulnerable foal and took it to Reteti Animal Rescue Centre. This successful rescue not only saved the foal but also emphasized the significance of wildlife conservation and protection ensuring a legacy of thriving biodiversity for generations to come,” said KWS.

The incident has captivated Kenyans with some saying the incident was emotional.

“These wild animals r suffering alot apart from diseases & other complications, ministry for wildlife only knows hw 2 eat d allocated money, no water for those animals despite the huge allocations and investment from tourism.Animals drink water only on rainy season assume it’s you,” an X user wrote.
