Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has launched the Haile Selassie Nairobi expressway exit which will facilitate entry into the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
The exit which was part of the original Nairobi expressway plan has been under construction for the last 6 months after Members of Parliament raised concerns over the absence of the Nairobi CBD exit in 2022.
The CS says the exit will allow access to some crucial government offices within the city.
“The new Exit, which has five lanes, will now grant motorists using the Expressway from Mlolongo, JKIA and other entry points along Mombasa Road, easy access to the Nairobi CBD, Ngong Road and Upper Hill and reduce traffic congestion from Capital Centre to Haile Selassie roundabout,” Murkomen stated.
“This infrastructural adjustment, which has been completed within five months, signifies the responsiveness of Moja Express to public demands and their readiness to work with the Government in expanding Kenya’s infrastructural network,” he added.
The project which still has a 1 year remaining on its contract has some drainage works ongoing but traffic will however be allowed to flow.
The government says there are plans to construct another express way to Kiambu road as well as expanding the Rironi- Naivasha- Nakuru – Mau summit road to make it a dual carriage.
“The Government will continue working with both local and international investors and contractors to roll-out more infrastructure projects under the Public-Private Partnership model, among them the Rironi-Mau Summit road project, Kiambu Road expansion project, among others, as way of cutting down Government expenditure on road construction and reducing public debt,” Murkomen indicated.
