Ahmednasir Moves To East African Court To Appeal Supreme Court’s Decision

Date:

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has said he will take action after the Supreme Court banned him on Thursday.

Taking to X on Friday, the lawyer said that he will move to the East African Court in Arusha, to appeal the supreme Court’s decision.

“I have instructed my lawyers to file a petition in the East African Court of Justice at Arusha to seek legal redress against the supreme court,” he said.

In a statement earlier, he said that this was the second time the banning him, for advocating for the removal of corrupt judges.

“Second time in my 30 years law career that the courts refused me audience for calling the removal of corrupt judges from the courts. First time was in 2000 when I was ejected from court and told not to come back because I presented paper in @lawsocietykenya annual conference calling for the reconstitution of the High Court and the Court of Appeal afresh.

“No other lawyer in the history of Kenya was denied audience for calling out corrupt and incompetent judges,” he said.

In  a statement on Thursday, the Supreme Court, through a letter by Registrar L.M Wachira, barred both Ahmednasir and the employees of his law firm from filing cases before it, over his frequent attacks on the Judiciary.

The court further said that the lawyer used broadcast, print and social media to continually accuse judges of  corruption, incompetence and outright bribery.

“This, you have done with reckless abandon, paying scant regard to the reputations of those who tirelessly serve on the Court in accordance with their Oath of Office,” the court said.

The court further said that it had warned him earlier, such occurrences would not go unpunished in future but he did not heed the warning.
