Date:

The family of Dr. Laban Langat, a medical officer intern at Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital (PGH), is struggling to come to terms with the death of their kin.

According to his mom, the deceased was full of life the last time they talked over the phone.

Their conversation was lively with Laban keen to know how the family was fairing on.

“On Thursday I inquired how he was fairing on and he was full of life. He even requested to talk to his father and everything sounded just fine,” Laban’s mother stated.

Hours before the intern was discovered dead, he was also in contact with one of his friends. They made plans to hang out and watch a rugby match.

“That Saturday morning there was rugby and he was planning just to go and watch. Around 4;45 in the morning he was online. But it was a bit shocking to see it on media that he was dead,” Laban’s friend stated.

His family which is struggling to come to terms with his death was also shocked by the autopsy results which indicated that the medical intern had signs of strangulation and wounds on the back of his dead.

Laban’s father questioned the security of the hospital wondering how his son was wandered and his body dumped in a trench.

Langat’s lifeless body was discovered in the trenches outside the Margaret Kenyatta Mother and Baby Wing on the morning of January 13, 2023.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has since called on the DCI to expedite probe into his mysterious death.

“His untimely demise is a profound loss to the medical fraternity, and our thoughts and prayers are with those affected,” stated KMPDU.

“The loss of a young doctor like Dr. Langat is a devastating blow to our healthcare system. He represented the future of our profession, and his tragic demise reverberates through the entire medical fraternity.”
