A Kenya Kwanza MP is urging Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to forego his presidential ambitions.
Nimrod Mbai, MP Kitui East, says that Kalonzo has no financial capability to campaign for the position.
Speaking at his rural home of Friday, Mbai said any attempts by Kalonzo to go for the prestigious seat would sink him into poverty.
“He cannot win the presidency alone…the seat requires someone to spend heavily and traverse the country like Ruto. But if Kalonzo traverses the country for one week like Ruto, he will be broke by Thursday and then give up.
“Kalonzo cannot run a presidential campaign for one week, actually he will run broke on the third day. I am not convinced that he can make any meaningful impact,” the lawmaker said.
Mbai further urged Kalonzo to either quit politics or support Ruto, which he said was the winning side.
“Just weigh yourself, you can’t compete Raila, You can’t compete Ruto. You can only join either of them but Raila’s side is not an option since you’ve been there four times. Just join William Ruto for posterity.
“Raila has invested all his life in politics and there’s no way he can leave the button to Kalonzo. Raila will support someone else,” he said.
A section of politicians have however been mounting pressure on Azimio leader Raila Odinga to endorse Kalonzo as Azimio’s flag bearer in 2027 elections.
In a recent interview with Citizen TV, the Azimio leader touched on the matter saying that the right candidate will be selected when the time is right.
“When the time comes for the next elections, we will find a way of selecting whoever is going to be the candidate for Azmio. I didn’t say I will support Kalonzo Musyoka, I acknowledged him as a trusthworthy person, someone you can trust who has stood with us through thick and thin,” Raila said.
