Martha Karua Explains Why She Doesn’t Recognize Ruto As Her President

Date:

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has said that she still holds her presidential ambitions.

Speaking to Citizen TV’s Sam Gituku, Karua however did not issue a direct response on whether she would vie for the presidency come 2027.

Instead, she said that she is not in a hurry to declare her stand.

“That is far way, I would think. I would pronounce myself, I don’t have to be in a hurry or under pressure. Even if ten other people say what they want in 2027, I’m not in any hurry; I’m totally unrattled. Right now we are fighting for the rights of Kenyans but I would say all cards are open, no restrictions,” she said.

At the same time, Karua said that she doesn’t recognize William Ruto as her president. This is because she doesn’t believe in the process that saw Ruto ascend to power.

“He is not my president, at least I have the freedom to say so. I reckon he is in office however he got there. I don’t believe the process that gave him. I don’t agree with the court’s decision where it found that three is a majority out of seven.  Even without saying so, If four commissioners say they cannot support the presidential declaration and the court trashes them, it legitimising that three can overrule  four in a panel. I am saying the process was flawed,” she explained.

She went on to fault the president’s frequent foreign trips.

“It is important but when you make so many trips that have no justification. If you are elected, you are elected to work in Kenya not abroad so the bulk of you should be at your desk working. Even travels within the country if you are always away from your desk you will never get it together so its balancing.

“Foreign relations is part of governance it is necessary but it can not be the number one priority ahead of everything so that you abandon everything else,” Karua maintained.
