Gov’t Collects Ksh900 Million In a Day After Ruto Directive

Date:

The government’s revenue from the eCitizen portal has exceeded ksh900 million in a single day.

Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Julius Bitok said that the state collected Ksh903.6 million on Wednesday December 20.

Of the amount, nearly a third was generated from transactions in U.S. dollars, totaling $1.45 million compared to Ksh680.4 million in the local currency.

This comes after President William Ruto directed all state agencies to onboard all their services onto the eCitizen platform by the end of this year.

He also directed that all payments for government services should be channeled through a consolidated paybill of 222222.

This was intended to inject better management and transparency in revenue collection and to stem leakages from numerous collection points.

Following the directive and with over 14,000 services currently accessible and payable on eCitizen, the daily revenue collection rose to an average of Ksh300 million last month.

Data from Treasury reveals that in November, Ksh4.66 billion was collected, up from Ksh1.44 billion in June before the presidential directive. The amounts for July, August, and September were Ksh2.36 billion, Ksh3.6 billion, and Ksh4.2 billion, respectively.
