Malala Reveals Why UDA Grassroots Elections Were Postponed

Date:

Interim United Democratic Alliance Secretary General Cleophas Malala revealed that the party postponed the scheduled grassroots elections to allow affiliate parties to fold.

Speaking in Nakuru where he opened a new office, Malala stated that UDA’s National Steering Committee chaired by the Party leader President William Ruto postponed the grassroots elections to the 12th, 19th, and 26th of April 2024, respectively to allow their affiliate party to participate.

Malala further explained that negotiations were on top gear to find a lasting solution that would allow all affiliate parties to be part of their grassroots polls.

Justifying the move, Malala argued that a united UDA would have more campaigning muscles to reclaim the 2027 presidential polls.

“We want Kenya to have strong political parties and that is why we are urging our sister parties within the Kenya Kwanza family to consider folding their parties,” Malala stated.

“That is the reason why we postponed our elections to April to allow our brothers to fold up their parties so that they can come and participate in our elections,” he added.

UDA affiliate parties are the Amani National Congress (ANC) led by Chief Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and the Forum for the Restoration of Democracy (FORD–Kenya) led by the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula.

Musalia and Wetangula have opposed the calls for a merger arguing that Kenya Kwanza will remain strong and intact with each party maintaining their status.
