Date:

A 70-year old woman, fromĀ  Masaka District in Uganda, has left world shocked after giving birth to twins after years of struggling with childlessness

Safina Namukwaya was able to conceive her babies through In Vitro Fertilization that was conducted by Dr. Edward Sali at the Women’s Hospital International Fertility Center.

She was blessed with a boy and a girl.

According to her, the pregnancy, at her age, was not a walk in the park.

“There was a time when I was very ill because of the pregnancy. I spent almost all of my savings. I went to hospital in Kyabakuza and later called Dr. Sali. He told me to travel to Kampala but I told him I had no money and he organized transport to the hospital,” she said.

The elderly woman further revealed that her husband has since abandoned her after discovering that she was carrying twins.

Namukuywa further said that she opted to get pregnancy because of being humiliated due to lack of a child.

“I looked after other people’s children and saw them grow up and leave me alone. I wondered who would take care of me when I grow old. Once a very young boy mocked me and said my mother had cursed me to die without a child,” she said in an interview with Monitor.

During her first marriage, she suffered miscarriages till the death of her husband in 1992.

Four years later, she got another husband but still their was no success in getting pregnant.

She is not sure how she will take care of her babies at her age but she said that God is in control.

“I really don’t know, God is in charge. You see you can have one child and feel overwhelmed but here I am with twins at a time when I am weak. At a time when I can’t go to my garden and grow food to sell, I don’t know. But they say every child comes with its blessings,” she said.
