Motorists Driving On Flooded Roads Risk Losing Licenses And Being Prosecuted

Date:

Motorists driving across dangerously flooded roads risk losing their licenses and may even face charges of attempted suicide.

Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen warned such drivers who have been risking other people’s lives, because of being in a hurry.

“I want to put all our drivers on notice that should we find you crossing or having crossed a dangerously flooded road  we cancel your license  and even prefer charges of attempted suicide against you.

“Do not be a reason why someone dies just because you want to rush to your next destination even when the roads are flooded. There is no hurry, better be late for a week or a month but save lives,” the CS said in a statement.

This comes at a time when it has been  confirmed that a total of 120 Kenyans have lost their lives due to floods that have been caused by El Nino rains

On Tuesday, DP Rigathi Gachagua revealed that 37 of the total deaths lost their lives because of daring nature.

“Kenyans are crossing rivers where they can see water are menacing and they are rough and they still insist that they are in a hurry to go somewhere but they never reach there. I want to appeal to the people of Kenya wherever they are to also be responsible,” he said.

“As much as they are asking the government to intervene, how do we intervene when yourself get into a river and you can see the way it is flowing,” the second in command said.
