Two Primary Schools Sue KNEC Over 2023 KCPE Results

Date:

Days after the release of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education(KCPE) 2023 results, two schools have moved to court, suing the Kenya National Examination Council(KNEC).

Kitengela International School  wants the court to bar KNEC from proceeding with the form one placement exercise over errors and mix-up of results. The exercise was set to kick off this Monday.

The school rejected the 2023 KCPE results, saying that scripts of students were mixed up. It further argued that if the placement exercise continues, “innocent pupils will be denied justice.”

The school is being represented by lawyer Danstan Omari.

Set Green Hill Primary school in Kisii have also moved to court protesting the results of their students. The school is seeking a remark of KCPE exams so that their students can be awarded correct remarks.

“The only thing that should be done is that the students are awarded  correct marks. There is no way pupils can be scoring over 420 and then from nowhere they end up scoring less than 400,” the school’s management said.

The 2023 KCPE results have been filled with controversies since their release on Thursday last week. First it began with delays in accessing the results after their release by Education CS Ezekeiel Machogu.

Other cases were of student being awarded marks for subjects that they did not sit for such as the Kiswahili Sign Language. KNEC however said that the cases were only witnessed among students who tried to access their results via SMS. In the portal, according to KNEC, the results were all correct.

In another case that court the nation’s attention was that of a Brainstar Schools-Isiolo, where all students scored 75 marks in Science subject.

KNEC however said that there were no cases of cheating in the school.

“KNEC has reviewed the results for the school and all the reports that were received from the examination centres and anonymous letters and has not found any indication that the school was involved in examination malpractices,” the council’s CEO David Njengere said.
