President William Ruto on Wednesday, November 1, announced plans to pay absentee landlords and claim their land to settle the squatters across the country.
While speaking in Mombasa, The Head of State took the time to speak to the hearts and minds of residents telling them that soon, some Ksh1 billion earmarked for redistribution of land owned by absentee landlords will be put to use.
“We will deal with absentee landlords, in the budget I approved two months ago there is about Ksh1 billion to pay off these landlords and settle some squatters,” Ruto stated.
According to President Ruto, the new plan will go on for the next five years to ensure squatters are well settled.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, on the other hand, announced that his county was negotiating with the rich landowners in the region to fast-track the project.
At the same time, Ruto announced a series of projects that are expected to be launched in the coastal region. According to the Head of State, the projects are key to unlocking the economic potential of the region.
“This ocean can generate an annual revenue of approximately Ksh100 billion and we want these young men to get the necessary skills and create employment for themselves,” Ruto stated.
