Governor Sakaja Gives Update on City Festival After Willis Raburu’s Resignation

Date:

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Monday, October 30 assured Nairobi residents that the planned city festival will go on as planned despite Willis Raburu’s resignation.

Raburu served as the Chairperson of the festival which was critical in planning the 6 six days event in Nairobi.

However, Sakaja announced that more sponsors had come on board to support the festival aimed at showcasing talent and different businesses within the city.

He thus assured residents that the festival would be better with a lot in store for attendees.

“For six days, the Nairobi Festival, organized by the Nairobi City County Government will provide a platform to celebrate the diversity of Nairobi, as well as its rich creative arts and culture,” he told the congregation.

“We have many more partners that have come on board. We have budget lines and all the provisions in our law to get the ticket, and we expect a bigger international festival.”

Raburu announced on Monday that he had quit his role at the Nairobi County. He explained that the county needed a systemic change.

“This morning, I have officially informed the leadership of the county that I will no longer be serving in my current capacity as Chair of the Nairobi Festival Committee,” read the statement in part.

“However, this decision is driven by a recognition of the pressing need for systemic change to enhance the effectiveness of our service delivery and leadership.”

Raburu only served for three months before handing in his resignation.
