President William Ruto left the country for Congo Brazzaville on Friday October 27 evening.
The Statehouse however did not provide an official communication about the trip but according to videos that were shared online, Ruto was captured being received by officials of the said country.
According to a statement from the office of the President, Congo Brazille, Ruto visited the country in order to participate in the 2nd edition of the Summit of the 3 tropical forest basins of the planet
“His Excellency Sir William Ruto arrived in Brazzaville, this Friday, October 27, 2023. The Kenyan President is coming to take part in the second edition of the Summit of the 3 tropical forest basins of the planet, the presidential segment of which will take place this Saturday, October 28, 2023,” read the statement.
The climate summit brings together leaders Congo, Amazon and Borneo-Mekong-South East Asia basins.
It aims at implementing the first global coalition to restore 350 hectares of terrestial and aquatic ecosystems.
Ruto’s trip however comes moments after he revealed that he had cut travel costs by Ksh11 billion.
“Nimepunguza ile pea ya kurandaranda na kuzunguka….niliona watu wa gazeti jana wakisema eti nimepunguza na milioni mia tano….hapana, nimepunguza na bilioni kumi na moja,” he said while in Voi.
The Congo Brazzaville trip is Ruto’s 39th foreign trip since he assumed the country’s leadership last year.
