Lands CS Alice Wahome Advises Land Buyers On How They Can Avoid Being Conned

Date:

Lands CS Alice Wahome has sounded a warning to individuals occupying public land.

Speaking in Nairobi on Thursday, Wahome said that those occupying public land  should either vacate or face consequences.

Sh however advised those wanting to buy land on how to avoid falling victims of fraudulent land activities.

“We advise that when purchasing land, buyers  should carry out due diligence by checking the status from our land offices and obtaining maps  from our survey department,” she said.

Commenting on the ongoing demolitions at East Africa Portland Cement’s land in Mavoko, Wahome said that her ministry is aware of who the ideal owner of the controversial land is.

“Any other document purported to be held in respect to the said land do not originate from this office. The office has already forwarded the relevant documents to DCI for support in the ongoing investigations,” Wahome said.

On Tuesday, DCI called upon victims of the demolitions to report to at Athi River police station with evidence and documents that could help arrest those who fraudulently sold them the pieces of land.

“Due to the magnitude of the Portland PLC matter, which involves significant personal losses for potentially innocent victims of land fraud, and the swindling of millions of shillings, the DCI has established desks at the Athi River Police Station to collect relevant information and evidence that will aid in the investigations,” the DCI boss said.
