Raila Odinga has claimed that he has only lost presidential elections once out of the five times that he has contested.
According to him, the only time he lost election was when he contested for the first time.
This was back in 1997 when he competed against the late Daniel Arap Moi and the late Mwai Kibaki. Raila settled for the third position while Kibaki came second.
“Then now how it feels being unlucky five times. No. I ran five times but seriously only four times. The only time I lost was when I ran for the first time because I was just basically going to jog to get to know…I became number three but I have but never lost. That’s my pride. It gives me satisfaction and I can say it even when they are here,” he said while speaking at the Young African Leaders and Aspirants Forum on Tuesday.
Raila added that his opponents are aware that they have never won against him and that even the electoral commissioners confirmed that.
“You saw the commissioners testifying at the Bomas of Kenya, saying the truth ‘we did not announce the real results’. You saw an article yesterday in The Star, telling you that the results Kivuitu announced were not real results even the results Chebukati announced were not the results and he knows it,
Raila further said that despite the unfair treatment, he has been able to forge ahead because of the Kenyan spirit.
“Kenyans deserve better. Working this way we will be able to strengthen democracy in Kenya and one day Kenyans will a true, free, open, transparent, election,” the former prime minister concluded.
