Langata member of parliament Felix Odiwuor famously known as Jalang’o was on Wednesday, September 6 expelled from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In a statement, ODM noted that Jalang’o was expelled for defying party positions and gross misconduct.
Jalang’o was kicked out of the party alongside MPs Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda.
Speaking during expulsion, ODM Chairman John Mbadi indicated the legislators had been expelled for associating with a rival party.
“The members be deemed to have resigned from the ODM and the party is hereby directed to commence the process of removing them from the register of ODM,” Mbadi stated.
Despite early warnings, Jalang’o and other expelled members continued to associate with Kenya Kwanza’s side led by President William Ruto.
They defended their associations indicating that it was lobbying for development projects. By the time of this publication, the expelled lawmakers had not issued their next course of action.
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris was fined Ksh250,000 for supporting the Finance Act in Parliament. She was however fined after honouring the summons and tendering an apology to the party.
“She should issue a written apology to the party within seven days and be fined a sum of Ksh250,000 which should be paid within 60 days,” the NEC resolved.
However, the ODM chairman directed MPs Mark Nyamita (Uriri) and Paul Abuor (Rongo) to tender an apology and pay a Ksh1 million fine to the party.
Raila’s Push for Respect of Political Parties
After agreeing to the dialogue table, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga listed respect of political parties among the agendas.
In the bipartisan talks, Raila’s side which is represented by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka advocated for the formulation of frameworks that will protect political parties from interference.
He argued that protecting political parties would preserve the sanity of political processes in the country including elections.
