Following mass protests against the high cost of living in the country, former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has predicted an uprising in Kenya.
He was referring to the Tuesday protests across Parliament Road led by comedian Eric Omondi.
Eric led a group of bare-chested men in a protest against the rising cost of living.
The group marched to Parliament Buildings, waving placards and chanting bado mapambano (the struggle continues), demanding Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to listen to their cries.
On the placards, the words “stima juu, maji juu, unga juu, tax juu” were written.
Mutunga stated that the protest provided an opportunity for alternative political leadership to emerge.
“Mass action has begun. Uprising is on the horizon. Great political opportunity for alternative political leadership in Kenya that is devoid of the political viruses of both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza,” says Willy Mutunga.
Following the protests and a brief altercation at Parliament, some demonstrators, including Eric, were grouped into a police vehicle and driven out of the CBD fast.
Kenyans responded to the protest and subsequent arrest on social media saying, the group was right and that citizens are suffering due to high costs of living.
