Golden Africa employees died after being forced to clean a soak pit

Date:

The Golden Africa employee had been instructed to clean without donning any safety equipment allegedly.

On Friday, December 23, three Golden Africa employees perished while attempting to save a colleague who was cleaning a soak pit within.

According to reports, James Wanjala, Stephen Okoth, and Kelong Mathew Kiprotich died while cleaning the sludge-filled septic tank at the company.

It is said that Okoth accessed the septic system first on Friday, December 23, but ran out of air before sounding the alarm.

His two coworkers rushed to help him right away. Sadly, they also ran out of oxygen, and they all tragically died.

The three were finishing up their duties so they could take a break for the Festivities, according to Mary Njoki, commander of the Athi River Sub-County Police.

The first victim was not provided with protective gear when he was instructed to cleanse the pit that contained sludge; according to other coworkers who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Additionally, the deceased lacked the tools necessary to facilitate the work.

Police have immediately started looking into the three victims’ deaths’ circumstances.
