Why Uhuru Kenyatta is leaving Raila Odinga and Azimio

Date:

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta will leave Azimio La Umoja.

In order for Mr. Kenyatta to legally resign from his position in the coalition of parties that supported the presidential campaign of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in the August elections, the alliance wants to call a meeting to deliberate on the way forward.

In order to focus on his peace initiative, former president Uhuru Kenyatta is anticipated to step down as head of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition council.

Conversations among coalition members, including his longstanding adviser David Murathe, allege that Uhuru Kenyatta has already pulled back from his role as coalition leader to focus on leading the peace negotiations in the region, as given by his then deputy, now President,  William Ruto.

Mr. Odinga, who is presently seeking to organize his troops to build a significant anti-government organization, is expected to suffer a serious political loss as a result of the defections and Mr. Kenyatta’s predetermined retirement.

The Presidential Retirement Benefits Act of 2003 specifies that Mr. Kenyatta must submit his resignation no later than February 2023. A number of Mr. Odinga’s main friends recently announced significant pro-establishment defections, which led to the impending resignation.
