Out of 16,000 kids, at least 12,000 in Kirinyaga Central sub-county have tested positive for STIs, according to an education officer.
Kennedy Machora claimed that when the majority of the tests produced positive results, doctors at county health institutions where some pupils sought treatment were worried.
He spoke to parents on Thursday at New Kerugoya Victory Academy.
He stated that after visiting schools, representatives from the ministry of education came to an understanding with the administration to test every kid.
In order to discuss how to test pupils in class, he said, an urgent conference between the Ministry of Education, the local security team, and the Ministry of Health via the public health department was required.
According to Machora, there are worries that many more students could be infected yet be completely clueless of it.
Officials are still awaiting the results from July to December, he said, adding that the data was from January to June of this year.
Investigations, according to Machora, suggest that when they rent cars and consume drugs on school closure and opening days, most students have unprotected sex.
