Siaya senator Oburu Odinga has commended Kipchumba Murkomen on his appointment as the Cabinet Secretary for Transport.
Oburu acknowledged him as an outstanding senator even though he had not served with him in the senate adding that he used to hear about his contributions while serving as a member of the East Africa Legislative Assembly(EALA).
He however called upon Murkomen to put into action all his pledges and keep off matters of politics and elections.
“I would like to urge Hon Murkomen to do what he has said he will do. He has said that he is not going to be partisan in serving the people of Kenya and I hope, Hon Murkomen, you will offer services to the people and forget about elections. Elections are over and it is time to work and fulfill all the promises you made to the people of Kenya. If you do that we are not going to pull your leg, we are only going oversight you to make sure you don’t deviate from your promises,” Oburu said.
The first-time senator also complained about how Kenya Kwanza is ‘snatching’ opposition leaders. He told the incoming CS to talk to team so that they stop luring opposition members to their side, saying that the move is weakening the opposition.
“Please, talk to people who are still creating campaign mood by even trying to lure some people from our side and telling them to come to your side that they are trying to weaken the opposition. They promised that they will not do handshake, that they will want a strong opposition to oversight the government,” Oburu said.
Moments before handing in his resignation, Murkomen said that it was not easy for him to leave the senate, which has been his ‘home’ for the last 10 years.
“A lot is going through my mind. Leaving the Senate is not easy. It’s been my home for the last 10 years,” he shared on Twitter.
